Time: 6:15pm to 8pm

Location: Rydges Southbank Function Centre, 23-29 Palmer Street

Event: Hear from the Runners and two of Townsville’s very own world-renown scientists at this community event. Light refreshments proudly provided by NAB, Major Partner of Run for a Safe Climate.

Presenters: World authorities on the wetlands, rainforests and reefs of Far North Queensland – Professor Richard Pearson Head of School, School of Tropical Biology and Dr J.E.N. (Charlie) Veron, former Chief Scientist of the Australian Institute of Marine Science.

Today’s focus: Cromarty Wetlands, impacts of global warming on the Wet Tropics Rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef,  and climate solutions for Australia.

Tuesday 3 November: Community forum

Time: 6pm Community Walk • 6:30pm Community Forum

Location: Community walk: meet the Runners at Esplanade Park, Cnr Lily St and the Esplanade. Community Forum:  Catalina Room, Cairns RSL, 115 Esplanade.

Event: Join the Runners for the last few kilometres of their journey (at your own pace), or meet us at the end of the run for a Community Forum and hear from World reef and rainforest authorities from your local area.

Monday 2 November: Community forum

Time: 5.30pm for a 5.45pm start

Location: Daintree Discovery Centre

Event: meet the runners and hear two local scientists talk about their work, before joining us for a BBQ on the deck.

Presenters include Great Barrier Reef expert Dr J.E.N. (Charlie) Veron and Wet Tropics Rainforest expert Associate Professor Steve Williams.

Today’s focus: Impacts of global warming on the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforests; Highlighting regional climate solutions for the Far North Queensland region.

Monday 2 November: starting line event

Time: A snappy, fresh 8 am start!

Location: Endeavour Park by the monument

Event: Cook Shire Council Mayor Peter Scott and Carol Pierce from the Gungarde Aboriginal Corporation speak at the official send off as the runners take the first steps in their 6000km run. The youngsters from Hopevale Aboriginal Community will perform a dance to bless the run and ensure the runners have safe passage. Join us in wishing them well on their epic journey.
